Phebe with her Mother Edna Louella
(Probably not too long before Edna died of Pneumonia)
- Mother hadn't been feeling well for quite awhile and during the winter I was in 7th grade, she had a bad cold or flu most of the time. One afternoon I met dad after school and he said mother had pneumonia. I was frightened. Pneumonia was usually fatal in those days before antibiotics. The doctors did all they could and we prayed for her, but she got worse. On the morning of April 1, 1931, she died. It seemed like our world collapsed. We all missed her terribly.

1932- Phebe with Eliza Denio in Logan Ut.
After Edna Louella died Eliza came to live with the Linford's.
- Dad's oldest sister, Eliza Denio, a widow, decided to come and live with us. She was a comfort and blessing to us. She filled our hearts with love and our stomachs with good food. Among other things, she taught me how to make bread.-
(Phebe is in a special dress given to her by Leo.)

James married Beatrice Copper on Sept 23rd 1932. Beatrice had 2 small boys, Boyd and Wayne, and Phebe went from being the youngest in the family to a big sister.

1938- Sophomore Year- Utah State

1938
-That was the most exciting year of my life up to that time. Going to college and being part of the social life was like a new world to me. I had lots of dates and made lots of new friends. I was in the girl's glee club and was in the chorus of he opera "Carmen". The Spur Service Club asked me to join and it was so much fun. We marched at football games and sold candy and ice cream at the games. I won a prize for selling the most my sophomore year.-
